Star Lot : An incredible bronze sculpture depicting the 1916 Rising commemorative statue titled 'The Dying Cuchulainn' originally by artist Oliver Sheppard. With text to verso reading "Manufactured in the Republic of Ireland Under License from the Commissioner of Public Works". Held on a slab of Connemara marble. With internet comps of €460 on whytes.ie. Super Star Lot: Francis Danby (Irish b.1793 - d.1861) An incredible Francis Danby antique oil on board painting circa 1835. Features a German / Swiss river landscape scene with wonderful fine brushstrokes. Signed F. Danby bottom left with antique dealers handwritten note to verso stating '...purchased by Green on my instruction at the Richardson sale at the Manor House, Aborts Leigh. 1967'. Housed in a gilt frame. Danby was an important Romantic artist of the early 19th century with works fetching thousands at notable auctions such as Christies. MM: 43cm x 33cm including frame Previous in auction on 29/08/24 with Lot no.90 Francis Danby ARA (16 November 1793 – 9 February 1861) was an Irish painter of the Romantic era. His imaginative, dramatic landscapes were comparable to those of John Martin. Danby initially developed his imaginative style while he was the central figure in a group of artists who have come to be known as the Bristol School. Super Star Lot: Tony O'Malley HRHA (1913-2003) An original Tony O'Malley HRHA (1913-2003) gouache over pencil and ink with gold paint on paper painting titled 'Swiss Armoire, 1973'. Portrays an 'armoire' characterising a nostalgic theme of memories. Features a semi-abstract painting, part of O'Malley's period of exploration into unconventional subjects, with a style evocative of folk art. Signed lower left and dated '1973' in pencil. Housed in a white wooden frame behind glass. With framing label of Porthmeor Gallery St. Ives, Cornwall along with 'Arts Council 1984' label to verso. In 1973 Tony O’Malley married Jane Harris, a Canadian artist. Their meeting had a significant effect on the artist, whose palette brightened dramatically from this point onwards. This change in direction, coupled with their trips to the Caribbean, spawned O’Malley’s most popular series of Bahamian works from the early 1970s. MM: 40 x 50 cm including frame Tony O'Malley is a highly respected artist with works fetching into the thousands at Adam's. Kilkenny born painter Tony O’Malley began painting full time in 1958 having worked as a Bank Clerk previously while painting in his spare time. He is best known for his paintings done in Cornwall, where he lived for thirty years after visiting St Ives in 1955 and returning to settle there in 1960. While he was strongly influenced by the St Ives artistic community, his relationship was one of engagement rather than direct participation, although he did meet and work with Peter Lanyon and Patric k Heron. He spent winters in the Bahamas, which had a further strong influence on his art, which became more vibrant and colourful. His work has been exhibited at the RHA, Taylor Galleries, Coram Gallery in London and he represented Ireland at ROSC ‘80. An honorary member of the RHA (elected 1990), he was elected Saoi of Aosdana in 1993 and the following year received an Honorary Doctorate from Trinity College Dublin. The Irish Museum of Modern Art held a major retrospective of his work in 2005. Tony O'Malley's work featured strongly in the sale of 'The Collection of Nancy Wynne-Jones and Conor Fallon: Ballard House' (June 2015), who were close friends of the artist from the St. Ives days. O'Malley sells very well at auction with Works at Whyte's selling as much as €66,000

Star Lot: John Francis Skelton (Irish, b.1954). A wonderful original John Francis Skelton oil on canvas board painting titled 'The Bog Boat'. Like his father before him J.F. Skelton choses to paint wild coastal scenes with nods to the traditions of rural Western Ireland. This maritime scene features a hooker boat filled with turf. Signed lower right with title and Gormleys auction sticker to verso. Housed in a deep gilt and white wooden frame. Skelton's work is popular at auction with similar works fetching €1000 or €2000. John Francis Skelton was influenced at an early age by his father the renowned Irish artist, John Skelton. He started painting at the age of eight and upon leaving school, studied at the National College of Art and Design, graduating with an honors Diploma in Fine Arts in 1976. He then traveled to Europe and Africa studying both their painting and culture, thus broadening his knowledge of art. Upon returning to Ireland, John Francis Skelton took a teaching position at the People’s College, Dun Laoghaire. His paintings have been accepted by the Hibernian Academy and are in many private collections around the world.
