A beautiful original antique copper plate etching titled "An Old Sawmill, Tuam" by the Irish printmaker George Atkinsons (1880-1940) handsigned and titled in pencil. Depicts a study of the titular scene which captures a lost profession of old Ireland. Features Robert Moore & Co Framers sticker to verso.
Mm: 40 x 30 cm.

Hailing from Cork, George Atkinson (1880-1941) trained at the Royal College of Art, London. In 1917, he was elected a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy and subsequently became Director of the National College of Art and Design and Expert Advisor to our Gibson Bequest Committee. He was part of the 19th century painter-etcher revival in Ireland, and was recently featured in the 2019 National Gallery of Ireland exhibition "Making their Mark".
