9 sheets of beautiful 19th century hand-painted wallpaper. A really interesting lot. Each piece is part of a 'paradise garden' set, showing a bird of paradise and beautiful flowers and trees creating a fresco-like, oriental indoor garden effect. Some have a Bamboo right angle in the corner which are probably the ends.
Mm: Each piece, as seen, measures: Red and blue bird descending w/ pink blossoms: 225 cm x 60 cm, Flower page with blossoms and lillies: 225 cm x 60 cm, Large angry eagle: 229 cm x 121 cm, Red and blue bird with long tail feathers: 226 cm x 120 cm, Three cranes: 225 cm x 123 cm, Two light blue birds and roses: 230 cm x 120 cm, Two red birds and a swallow: 227 cm x 120 cm, Blue and red bird looking down to a hen: 229 cm x 122 cm, Large cockerel and hen: 232 cm x 122 cm. Each piece has some condition issues and there is some antique repairs to the rear of a few of the sheets.

Retailed or owned at one point by Hollywood legendary interior designer to the stars; William Haines. William Haines started his antique dealing and interior design business after a successful career as a Hollywood actor, which ended abruptly after he refused to denounce his Homosexuality. Haines and his partner Billie Shields became the prominent antique dealer and interior designer to Hollywood greats such as Marlon Brando, Clarke Gable and Joan Crawford, Bette Davis etc. He exhibited his design work at the 1939 World Fair. There is an exhibition of Hand painted wall paper at the Victoria and Albert museum. Amazing rare and Unique items with Amazing provenance. Important lot.
