Star lot : A highly interesting and rare documents regarding the death of John Pasker aboard the Leinster Mail ship that was sunk by a German U boat in 1918 . Pasker was a postal worker who was tragically killed when the mail ship he was working on, "The Leinster" was torpedoed four times during World War I by a German Mboat, October 1918 near Kings Town (now Dun Laoghaire). Sadly, over 500 people perished, including 21 postal workers. A fascinating look into a turbulent time in Irish history. These documents include his birth certificate, letter of condolences from the French Consulate and family letters and an invitation to attend a memorial gathering from the East Indian Association to Paskers Parents . Very interesting and sad piece of postal and Naval history.
From the personal collection of Mr James Drumm the Director of printing and engraving for Ireland in the 1940s and 1950s.
