Star lot: Very large original oil pastel, double portrait signed by artist Graham Knuttel (b.1954). Sold at Gormley's in 2011. His works have recently sold for up to £4000 at auction. Mm: 93.5 cm x 73 cm.
Graham Knuttel (b.1954) is a leading Irish figurative painter and sculptor. Originally from Dublin, Knuttel attended the Dun Laoghaire School of Art. Since then, his talent has reached far beyond Ireland, as evidenced by prestigious commissions from prominent figures such as Robert de Niro, Teri Hatcher and Whoopi Goldberg.
This particular work is very typical of Knuttel. The thickly applied and intense pastel palette together with the mysterious, even sinister, stares of the solemn couple culminates in the dark and dangerous atmosphere Knuttel’s work is celebrated for.
